Hongkong International Terminals Limited (HIT) is a member of HPH Trust, the world's first container port business trust. HIT is also a part of Hutchison Ports’ global network of port and logistics operations in 52 ports, spanning 27 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australasia. In January 2019, HIT, Modern Terminals Limited, COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited, and Asia Container Terminals Limited formed the Hong Kong Seaport Alliance, a joint operating agreement designed to deliver more efficient service offerings to carriers that call Hong Kong, while enhancing the overall competitiveness of the Port of Hong Kong across the region.
Modern Terminals has been a pioneer in the growth of the container terminal industry in Hong Kong and Mainland China ever since opening Hong Kong’s first purpose built container handling facility in 1972. Today, our container terminal businesses are located at the Kwai Tsing container port in Hong Kong and two Mainland China locations, DaChan Bay Terminals in the Pearl River Delta and Taicang International Gateway in the Yangtze River Delta. The company also holds equity stakes in Shekou Container Terminals and Chiwan Container Terminal, both located in the Pearl River Delta.
In 2000, ModernPorts was established as the first portal to provide the Hong Kong shipping community with a one stop e-business platform for terminal services.
