UAE - ADNOC and ADPower Offshore Power Transmission PPP Project

About this project

The project involves development of offshore power transmission project in Abu Dhabhi, United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower) have launched a joint PPP tender to build a subsea power transmission system to connect the emirate’s offshore oil and gas platforms.

The project will start its operations in the year 2025.

The project will include two independent high-voltage direct current cables and converter stations with a total capacity of 3,200MW linking ADNOC’s offshore platforms to ADPower’s onshore electricity grid.

The project will allow the Abu Dhabi Energy Group to replace the power generated by gas-fired turbines on its offshore platforms with cheaper electricity produced more efficiently onshore. It will cut the oil company’s carbon footprint by up to 30% and allow it to use, for other purposes, the natural gas that powers the offshore turbines.

ADNOC will cover about 60% of the equity investment and keep a corresponding share in the project company while the private partner will have a 40% stake.
