Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Further Deepening of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
12 May 2017

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, made a state visit to China during 11-13 May 2017. Both parties agreed to extend the comprehensive strategic partnership already in place between the two countries. This will include the full implementation of existing agreements with regard to bilateral co-operation and of any pre-agreed cooperative projects. Further co-operation with regard to trade, investments, economic matters, technological developments, transportation, telecommunications, agriculture and industrial parks is also to be prioritised.

In additional moves, Uzbekistan confirmed its willingness to export agricultural and other products, including natural resources and energy, to China under the terms of the China-Uzbekistan Long-Term Trade Agreement, originally signed on 14 October 2009.

Furthermore, the two sides are to continue to actively implement the policies agreed during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Uzbekistan in June 2016. Specifically, both sides confirmed their support for the Import-Export Bank of China’s undertaking to provide financing for approved investment projects in the fields of energy, hydropower, the chemical industries, irrigation, soil improvement, the manufacture of construction materials and infrastructure construction. Such financing will be provided in compliance with the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding on Investment Co-operation Between the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
