01 Sep 2016

Hebei’s Department of Education has recently published the Hebei Education Action Plan for Jointly Advancing the Belt and Road Initiative. This has been designed to promote educational exchanges and co-operation with many of the countries along the proposed routes of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Under the terms of the plan, by 2020, five to 10 primary, secondary and vocational high schools in every city within the province will have been encouraged to establish co-operative ties with similar educational institutions in countries situated along the routes of the Belt and Road.

It is also anticipated that the number of international students studying in Hebei from BRI countries will be raised to 5,000. In an additional move, new Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms will be built overseas, with 1,500 Chinese language teachers and volunteers drafted in to teach in many of the BRI countries. Among the other priorities of the plan is the maintenance of a continuous programme of educational exchanges and co-operation, promoting language connectivity and cultural exchanges with many of the BRI countries, while giving many Hebei students the chance to study abroad.
