China-Papua New Guinea Joint Press Release

China-Papua New Guinea Joint Press Release
07 Jul 2016
During his official visit to China (5-10 July), the Hon Peter O’Neill, the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, agreement was reached on the need to capitalise on the opportunities generated by China’s implementation of its 13th Five-Year Plan and the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as Papua New Guinea’s adoption of its Development Strategic Plan 2010-2030. This was seen as an important means of synergising development strategies and achieving mutual benefits on a win-win basis. Both sides also consented to strengthening co-operation in a number of other areas, notably trade, investment, manufacturing and tourism, as well as to launch a joint feasibility study on a bilateral free trade agreement at the earliest possible date.
