China-Belarus Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

During the state visit of Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, to China between 28-30 September 2016, the two countries agreed to jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative; strengthen the synergy between the Belt and Road initiative and the development strategies of Belarus; deepen co-operation between the two countries in the areas of infrastructure, transportation, logistics and information communication. The two countries further undertook to ensure the safe and smooth advancement of all relevant projects and to further raise the level of mutually beneficial co-operation. In view of the continuing trend towards the globalisation of information, Belarus agreed to participate in the establishment of an “information silk road” with China. Both countries agreed to the joint use of data centres in Belarus, including those established with the participation of Chinese corporations.
