Laos - Laos-Vietnam 500kV Transmission Line

The International Finance Corporation has team up with state-run utility Electricité du Laos (EDL) on a 500kV transmission line between Laos and Vietnam.

The move is part of an MOU between MIFC and Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) aimed at strengthening and extending the country’s energy sector by mobilising private investment in transmission infrastructure. The transmission line will be used to export power from Laos to Vietnam. Laos' primary energy supply grew at 7.5% annually and electricity exports increased almost fourfold over the 15-year period through 2015.
