Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) Program

项目简介
Egypt has introduced to the world the NWFE and NWFE+ that were designed out of the Egypt National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) 2050 to firmly voice Egypt’s stance on the urgency of Egypt’s green transition and increasing demand for national adaptation as we set the trajectory for COP27 and beyond. NWFE in Arabic means “fulfilling pledges” with the aim to achieve low emission sustainable economic growth, strengthen the country’s adaptive capacity and resilience to climate change, improve climate financing infrastructure, and support scientific research and technologies to address issues at hand accordingly. In line with Egypt’s NCCS 2050, the NWFE program is primarily designed based on the interlinkages between Energy, Water and Food security, as there is strong interplay between the three sectors. NWFE aims to achieve development across key regions in Egypt: the Nile Valley, the Delta, the Mediterranean coast, the Red Sea, the Eastern Desert, the Suez Canal region, the Sinai region, the Western Desert, and the oases, with total targeted investments for the 9 Projects: 14.780 billion USD, divided as follows:Energy Pillar (1 Project): 10 billion USD.  Water Pillar (3 Projects): 1,430 billion USD. Food Pillar (5 Projects): 3,350 billion USD.Therefore, NWFE leverages on Egypt’s valuable partnerships to unlock innovative financing tools currently provided and being formulated to ensure that climate and adaptation finance is channeled to the most vulerable countries in Africa.
