China and France: Joint Declaration

China and France: Joint Declaration
10 Jan 2018

During the recent state visit to China (8-10 January) by Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, it was agreed that the two countries would further build on their existing comprehensive strategic partnership in line with the principles of mutual trust and reciprocal benefit. For his part, Macron said that France welcomed the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and was keen to explore a number of co-operative projects. The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their co-operation with regard to environmental protection and tackling climate change, while also looking to work more closely in several additional sectors, including aerospace engineering, space science, agroecology, food processing and other technology-related areas deemed to be of common interest. The two sides also pledged to seek out synergistic opportunities between Made in China 2025, China’s blueprint for the upgrade of its manufacturing sector, and Industrie du Futur (Industry of the Future), its French equivalent.
