13 Jul 2016

On 13 July 2016, the Ministry of Education unveiled its Campaign to Promote Education while Jointly Advancing the Belt and Road Initiative. This was designed to strengthen educational connectivity and co-operation between many of the Belt and Road countries. Among its recommendations was the launch of a joint study on how to improve the co-ordination of educational laws and policies between the Belt and Road countries and the establishment of a notification mechanism focused on the exchange of educational policies and information between those countries. Additionally, it called for the introduction of a visa facilitation mechanism between the Belt and Road nations, as well as an expanded educational co-operation and exchange programme. This included the setting up of a Silk Road Scholarship programme on the part of the Chinese government as a means of training people to work in specific sectors, while also identifying people with outstanding technical skills.
