In Islamabad, on 20 April 2015, China and Pakistan issued a Joint Statement on Establishing an All-weather Strategic Co-operative Partnership between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Both parties agreed to adopt a “1+4” economic co-operation model, which will see the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor act as the engine, while Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, the energy and transport infrastructure facilities, as well as industrial co-operation, will act as pillars.
