Joint Declaration on ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity
27 Apr 2016
On 3 March 2016, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its plan for meeting the aims of the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity (2016-2020). The plan is intended to promote the establishment of a peaceful, stable, integrated and prosperous ASEAN Community and forms part of the ASEAN Community's Post-2015 Vision. Under the terms of the accord, China and ASEAN will seek to deepen their cooperation in line with the obligations laid out under international law, while remaining in accordance with their respective domestic laws, regulations and policies. Such activity will extend across a number of areas, including politics, security, economic cooperation, social and cultural cooperation and connectivity. The two parties will also look to explore ways to improve mutual connectivity through synergising the common priorities identified in the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity, the Post-2015 Agenda for ASEAN Connectivity and China's Belt and Road Initiative.
