During his official visit to China from May 3-5 2016, Bounnhang Vorachith, President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, acknowledges that the two sides had agreed to take practical and effective measures to continue to expand the scale of pragmatic economic and trade co-operation, while raising the quality and level of co-operation with regard to the principle of equality, mutual benefit, diversity and common development. Examples cited here includes combining the aspirations and goals of China's Belt and Road Initiative and Laos' strategy of "transiting from a land-locked country into a land-linked one" as well as China's "13th Five-Year Plan" and Laos' "8th Five-Year Plan" through the strengthening of developmental strategy alignment and production capacity co-operation. Efforts will also now be made to finish formulating the outline of a plan for jointly promoting co-operation under the "Belt and Road" initiative as soon as possible, while also taking all practical measures to promote capacity and investment co-operation between the two countries.
