Myanmar - Yangon Zoning Water Supply and Distribution System Project

A water supply and distribution project in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city.

The project, which is being procured by the Yangon City Development Committee, is to be developed under a public-private-partnership (PPP) model. The winning bidder will design-build-finance-operate-maintain (DBFOM) the project.

The city government will impose a tariff cap for the water to be supplied from the project.

The local council has been facing trouble managing its water supply system, with illicit tapping of water from the city's pipelines and repackaging and selling it for higher prices across various municipalities.

Under the city's 2002-2020 masterplan Yangon's water supply will eventually reach 400 million gallons per day. The plan calls for the improvement of water supply from existing reservoirs as well as harnessing water from fresh sources such as the Hlaing River and Lagunbyin basin.
