Saudi Arabia - Rabigh Power Plant Extension

About this project
The rapid rise in urbanisation and the Government's aggressive industrial and modernisation policy has put immense strain on Saudi Arabia's utilities. With the Kingdom's electricity consumption forecasted to grow at the rate of 5.5 per cent annually, SEC (Saudi Electricity Company) has embarked on a major expansion drive of its existing utilties to address the problem. The client had originally planned to tender the project as a 1200 MW main package with a second optional 1200 megawatts (MW) package, however; the plant will now have a capacity of 2800 MW. The plant will be an oil-fired power plant using heavy fuel oil with provision for future conversion to gas. The thermal plant will operate on a "Conventional Reheat Rankine Cycle".
